Minute-to-win-it party

Friday we had a family minute-to-win-it party. Huge group + competitive couples + 60 second adrenaline blasts = awesome family get together. Really, you gotta have one.

Game 1: Bounce the ping-pong ball into the cup. When you catch one, move that cup to the bottom and try to catch another. 7 cups total.

Game 2: Shoot a rubber band and knock down a tower of coke cans. Turns out it's a lot harder than it looks.

Game 3: Sort M&M's in a row by color. Also harder than it looks considering the time constraints.

Game 4: Stack nuts on top of each other using chop sticks. I think this could be easy or hard depending on what size you get. 

Game 5: Flip a cup and make it land upside down on top of a bottle.

I may have missed one? Anyway, there are many sites with ideas for minute-to-win-it games, so it's different every time! In fact, I though it would be so fun to have a minute-to-win-it tailgate since football season is right around the corner! I think it may be too involved for tailgates, though.

In other news, I'm officially employed post-grad! All I have to do is start and finish a thesis by May. No biggie. :) I just can't seem to get into the "school" mode after working all summer.

AND, I have a TON of furniture related posts coming up soon. As soon as I finish organizing my apt so I can take pictures without having to move piles of junk around, I'll post. 

2 tablespoons of wishful thinking

Yet another long blogging hiatus. Sigh. What can I say? Life has been a little crazy, but the worst is over for now. I finished my intern project (kinda) and presented it to a room full of management, interns, and co-workers. 

Banks is doing well and growing like a weed. After wrestling with it for a while, I got him declawed. He is going to be a strictly indoor cat since I live in an apartment and will for a least a couple more years. The tipping point was actually my new couch-aka my biggest purchase ever. It's leather and I'm sure it would have been scratched sooner rather than later even if it wasn't on purpose. He is recovering well and will be back to normal in no time. 

It seems like all I've done is work, work, work, but I do have a few fun things to show you and I have two HUGE projects in the works to be completed in the next few weeks. :)

Rhett and I went to a wedding a few weekends ago with my family. It was beautiful, looking out over downtown Houston. Congrats, Katie and Shane!

Remember the stain glass piece I bought during the Roundtop extravaganza? I finally painted it and hung it inside my mantle. With a little help, of course.

I painted it white first so I could sand it later and have white peeking through.

Switching gears- did anyone else watch Nick & Vanessa's Dream Wedding? I hadn't planned on it, but I was flipping through the channels and decided to tape it for later. Three things: 1st: They're really cute. Like, really good together after a pretty significant amount of time. 2nd: I would totally have a destination wedding if I was a celeb and could do it in s-t-y-l-e. Wow. Gorgeous. 3rd: LOVE almost everything she wears. Fab-u-lous. I absolutely love the dress she wore to the church in Nick's hometown, but I can't find it online :( I'll keep looking.

As long as we're keeping this post random, how amazing is this hair??

I'm totally loving it. Halloween, maybe? 

Promise not to be gone for an insane amount of time.

bad cat's guilty pleasure

He's not that bad. Only kind of bad--the sour patch kid kind of bad where you can't really be upset because he follows up with something cute or loving. Yep, he's got that down like a boss.

Moving right along...he's developed this guilty pleasure, or maybe I should call it a comforting/sleepy routine of "nursing" his bed. It's kind of cute and sweet but it also breaks my heart a little to think maybe he didn't have enough time with his cat mom as a baby. I muted the video because I was simultaneously talking on the phone which would have been annoying, but I'll tell you, he's purring like crazy. AND you have to watch until the end because he realizes I'm filming and gets embarrassed (awwwwww)!

Is this normal??  I'm not necessarily worried about it, but I don't want him to end up with buck teeth like those kids who suck their thumb until their 10. He's 5 months old, so how long should this last? Any answers/similar experiences?

A Virginia Wedding

I strayed from my nonchalant lowercase titles and brought you a full-fledged uppercase one. Our weekend in Virginia deserves it (and so does that beautiful state!). 

Backing up- two weekends ago, my mom, aunts, and I went to Blacksberg, VA for my aunt's sister's wedding.

Since my aunt's sister isn't my dad's sister, we didn't feel the need to bring the boys along. Mom and I had a few issues getting there (i.e. running through the airport to our connecting flight in Atlanta only to be delayed for 4 hours), but we still made it in time to kick off an excellent girls weekend with a bit of wine and the rehearsal dinner (above).

The wedding was beautiful, complete with a candy bar and a large dance floor so we could get funky.

Ate cupcakes using our best manners. We were, after all, sitting at the bride and groom's table.

We had so much fun at the wedding, exploring the town, shopping, and hanging out with Aunt Shari's family whom we don't see that often. Shout out to the Mussers--thanks for inviting to share such a fun and special weekend with yall! 

On a side note, how much do you love the tree in front of their house?? We couldn't get over how cool and beautiful it is! Come live in Houston weeping evergreen!

blonde moment

My parents, Rhett and I followed the Casey Anthony trial pretty closely. Naturally, we kept each other updated on the goings on. When it came time to sentence, I was at work so Rhett sent me a text telling me to tune in and I had a typical blonde moment:

banks wears a polo

I should be packing, but I found some of Toby and Reggie's clothes in my closet and tried a few out on Banks :) Am I the worst pet owner ever for subjecting my kitten to an adorable blue polo?! I think not. I am aware that it's summer here in Texas, so I removed the polo shortly after shooting this. 

And I promise I only left this one on for a minute! ;) Could he get any cuter? Srsly.

sea foam

I'm loving the sea foam color right now. My aunt just painted her kitchen and game room this light and airy color and it really gave me the bug to add a bit more sea foam to my life (not the real kind...). I've had the itch to re-do my dresser and now that I have a new fave color, I'm can't wait to get started. The hold up? We are currently residing in different cities.
 I bought this vase from West Elm this past weekend. It fits in just fine with the sea pallet. 

My pinterest account just happens to be overflowing with sea foam. Here are some of my favorites.

I could go on, really. When I actually started looking, almost all of my pins are some shade of blue. 


I'm off to pack for Virginia! We are leaving our house at 5am tomorrow!
